Bug in Photoshop CC 2015.5 Mac

Only on a few Macs the pull downs in ColorPerfect don't work initially. To circumvent the problem click into any text box (e.g. White) followed by reverting ColorPerfect (<< Button). That is only required once after each start of PS CC 2015.5. Please get in touch if your Mac shows the problem.


PerfectRAW: 607 Cameras

On November 6th, 2016 we added further characterizations of digital cameras for PerfectRAW. We now support 607 digital camera models.


MacOS 10.12 (Sierra)

We released ColorPerfect 2.21a for MacOS on October 28th, 2016. The update adds compatibility for MacOS 10.12 (Sierra).


ColorPerfect 2.21

We released ColorPerfect 2.21 on March 25th, 2016. PerfectRAW now has built in characterizations for 566 digital cameras and ColorNeg for over 305 color negative films.


ColorPerfect 2.20

We released ColorPerfect 2.20 on December 2nd, 2015. The new version offers a batch processing workflow for similar images. PerfectRAW is now a separate mode with its own settings and has built in characterizations for 554 digital cameras and ColorNeg for over 305 color negative films.


ColorPerfect 2.17

We released ColorPerfect 2.17 on April 6th, 2015. It contains a re-worked FilmType calibration system. PerfectRAW now has built in characterizations for more than 515 digital cameras and ColorNeg for over 305 color negative films.


ColorPerfect 2.15

We released ColorPerfect 2.15 on September 30th, 2014. It improves numerous things and adds several completely new features. PerfectRAW now has built in characterizations for more than 480 digital cameras. Among the latest additions are all compact camera models for which a CHDK hack exists today.


MakeTiff 1.15

MakeTiff was updated on March 17th, 2014. The new version finally provides full support for Mac OS X 10.8 (Mountain Lion) and 10.9 (Mavericks).


ColorPerfect 2.12

We released ColorPerfect 2.12 on March 10th, 2014. It fixes a bug in the FilmType, SubType, FilmGamma calibration system. PerfectRAW now has built in characterizations for more than 270 digital cameras and ColorNeg for over 300 color negative films.


CP Retina display patch

On January 14, 2014 we released a ColorPerfect version that solves the problems with Photoshop CS6 and Photoshop CC on Apple Retina displays. So those hosts are now also supported on according Macbooks.


MakeTiff 1.13

MakeTiff was updated on June 6th, 2013. The white balance information recorded by the camera now also gets transferred to PerfectRAW when interpolating with dcraw.


ColorPerfect 2.10

We released ColorPerfect 2.10 on May 29th, 2013. It brings many small improvements. PerfectRAW now has built in characterizations for more than 225 digital cameras and the system to transfer settings from one image to the next was completely revised.


Nikon Coolscan & Nikon Scan 4.0: Driver for Windows Vista 64 bit, Windows 7 64 bit & Windows 8 64 bit

Even though Nikon does not officially support 64 bit Windows versions Nikon Scan 4.03 can still be used under such operating systems. We will detail how that can be accomplished below. Please note that you are using this information at your own risk and that we can't provide support for this. Of course that doesn't mean we'll not answer questions or are not interested in any problems you might encounter. This page is based on a Photo.net thread started by the community member Steel Chn whom we thank for this information. We mainly summarized that thread for our German users but to keep things in synch below is an English version also.

Building a driver for Nikon Scan 4.03 under Windows Vista 64 bit, Windows 7 64 bit & Windows 8 64 bit

To get started download Nikon Scan 4.03 for Windows Vista 32 bit. Install the software on your 64 bit Windows 7 or Windows 8. Next we need to create a driver for your scanner that is 64 bit compatible. To do so create a new folder anywhere on your system you feel comfortable with. Depending on the scanner model you own copy the two files "NKScnUSD.dll" and "Nks1394.inf" or respectively "NksUSB.inf" which are to be found under "C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Nikon\Driver\Scan1394" or "C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Nikon\Driver\ScanUSB" into that folder. Open "Nks1394.inf" or respectively "NksUSB.inf" in a text editor of your choice to replace its contents. To do so click into the text box below and press Ctrl+A followed by Ctrl+C to copy the code. Next enter your text editor and press Ctrl+A followed by Ctrl+V to paste the code into the *.inf file.


Save the file. Turn on your scanner and connect it to your computer. Go to Window's Control Panel and select System > Device Manager. On Windows 8 first follow the instructions at the end of this page which eventually take you to the Device Manager, too.

On Device Manager's device list your scanner is located in the imaging devices category. The corresponding entry will be named "Firewire Scanner" or something like that. Right click this entry and select "Update Driver Software". Next select "Browse My Computer" and specify the folder you created before. A warning message will be displayed which you will need to disregard, telling the system to go on with the installation. Afterwards your scanner should be listed under its correct name like "Nikon SUPER COOLSCAN 8000 ED". When you start Nikon Scan 4.03 after doing this it will detect your scanner and you should be good to go.

Installing and using unsigned drivers on Windows 8


We don't use our scanners on Windows 8 but user feedback tells us that in order to install the driver created above one needs to start Windows 8 in a special mode first. Getting Windows 8 to boot in that mode involves a series of steps of which we provide screen captures below. The screen captures come from a virtual Windows 8 machine and since FireWire devices can't be passed through to that virtual system we won't show the actual driver installation.

First get the Windows 8 menu to show and click the gear icon at its bottom. On the settings screen click the "Change PC settings" entry. There choose the General category from the "PC settings" list and scroll down all the way to the end of that category to reach the "Advanced startup" entry as shown. There press the "Restart now" button.

Your system will restart and after a while you'll get to this option screen. On it choose Troubleshoot, then choose "Advanced options" and finally choose "Startup Settings" where you'll find yet another Restart button. Press it to reboot to the "Startup Settings" screen and on it press either 7 or F7 on your keyboard to boot Windows 8 with its driver signature enforcement disabled.

After booting Windows 8 that way choose Search from the Windows 8 menu, enter "devmgmt.msc" and click on the App found to get to the Device Manager. Now install your driver as detailed above for Windows 7.

This will let you use Nikon Scan 4.03 on the 64 bit versions of Windows 8, Windows 7 and Windows Vista with the following Scanners: Nikon Super Coolscan LS-4000 ED, Nikon Super Coolscan LS-5000 ED, Nikon Super Coolscan LS-8000 ED, Nikon Super Coolscan LS-9000 ED, Nikon Coolscan IV (LS-40) and Nikon Coolscan V (LS-50).
